IMPROV WORKSHOPS

Our workshops are not just for performers but for anyone looking to get more connected, branch out, and try something new!

INTRO

No experience necessary. This four week course will teach the basics of improv by focusing on acceptance, support, trusting your fellow players, and PLAY.

LEVEL A

This four week class will utilize the basics of improv and move into scene work. This class heavily concentrates on the two-person scene, the anchor of long-form improvisation.

Focus on creation of character using body, voice, and wearing your character as a thin veil. You will also learn the importance of energy levels and emotions.

SKETCH WORKSHOPS

Each workshop is taught by FOUR instructors, a different instructor for each week of the workshop!

Intro to Sketch Comedy

This four week course with take you through sketch structure, types of sketches, tools, the pitching process, and approaching a first draft.  This workshop is not just for aspiring and current sketch writers but for anyone looking to WRITE! If you’re a stand up comedian, a writer, a student, someone looking to try something new, then this is the perfect stepping stone into the fun, fast, hilarious art of Sketch Comedy!

Writing Character

This four week course will give you all the tools needed to create hilarious, fully realized characters.  We will get you developing a character and then how we can write them into different types of sketches. Learn creation of body, voice, and what drives your character.

Must have taken Intro to sketch comedy to register.

INTENSIVE: Show Creation

This six week course follows the intensive process of putting together a sketch show from the ground up!  You will be put in a sketch ensemble, work closely with our instructors each week from pitching, writing, and show structure to create a fully realized sketch show.  You & your show will perform at our festival in MAY!

Must of taken Intro & character classes to register.

SKETCH WORKSHOPS INSTRUCTORS

Jenna Goldade

Jenna Goldade is the Executive Director of Against the Wall Theatre in Red Deer, and was the Artistic Director for 11 years. She is the co-creator of Bull Skit Comedy, the improvisational theatre group in Red Deer. Over the past 12 years with Bull Skit she has directed family based entertainment, training to both community and ensemble, created a mentorship program, and produced a show each and every week!  She has performed with Kinkonauts (Calgary), Loose Moose Theatre (Calgary), Rapid Fire Theatre (Edmonton), Seattle International Improv Festival, and iO (Chicago). Some of her training credits include Second City, Improv Olympic, Loose Moose Theatre, and Rapid Fire Theatre. The past ten years have been dedicated to Improv, but recently her love for written work & Improv collided with Tony & Tina’s Wedding (RDC) where she had the pleasure of assistant directing alongside Karen Johnson Diamond. She continues to immerse, challenge, and bring her love of Theatrical Improv to all facets of her life. She’s a graduate of the RDC Theatre Program and the RDC Motion Picture Arts Program. She is a MOM, teacher, improviser, producer, writer, director, and lover of the arts!

Matt Dale

Matt Dale is a writer and performer who grew up in the small town of Sundre, Alberta. After leaving home he completed the two year Theatre Performance program at RDC and continued to perform in many productions around Red Deer and Central Alberta. In 2012 Matt left to specify his skill in Toronto while attending Humber College’s Comedy Writing and Performance program. After years of gigging that saw him creating and performing across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and in Montreal; Matt enjoyed some much needed peace and quiet in the mountainous backdrops of Kananaskis. Now you can find Matt homebased in Calgary where he continues to create in the forms of sketch comedy, playwriting, screenwriting, and music with fellow artists that he’s met during his adventures across the country.

Emily Seymour

Emily Seymour is a born and raised Calgarian who has fallen in love with Red Deer while studying at Red Deer College for Theatre Performance and Creation in 2013. In addition, she has studied at Second City Chicago, and has written and performed several of her own sketch shows, as well as in contributed to Bull Skits Original Sketch Fests.

Jeremy Robinson

Jeremy Robinson was a full time member for Bull Skit comedy for 9 years also acting as their head writer. He is a graduate of Red Deer College Theatre Arts Program. He is an actor, playwright, director and AMPIA nominated screenwriter. He currently writes film criticism for online websites and resides in Calgary.
